Northeast District Student Case Competition award winners announced

Boston, Mass., May 17, 2011: The Third Annual APICS Northeast District Student Case Competition was recently held on the campus of Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. The event was hosted by the Boston and New Haven chapters of APICS, the Association for Operations Management.

This annual competition allows college students to showcase their skills in and knowledge of the field of operations management. Each team of competitors is presented a case to analyze, which includes specific problems for which they must develop solutions to present to the judges. These cases are developed to mirror real-world issues the students likely will face when they are hired in the field of operations. The solution are judged on criteria including feasibility, originality, and whether or not they reflect a clear understanding of the core competencies of operations management.

Sixty-eight students from 11 different universities competed in this year's event, which was held on Saturday, April 16. Both graduate and undergraduate students participated, and they were judged in separate tracks. Nine teams competed in the Graduate division and seven teams in the Undergraduate. First prize in each division was a cash award of $1,200 for the team, with second place winning $800, and third place taking home $500. In addition, the top five winning teams in each division also received free student memberships to the APICS chapter of their choice.
